Switching from Chinese to English to Chinese -- font problem

T

Thibault

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I switch back and forth from typing in English and Chinese in any given document. The problem is with the fonts. For example, when I start typing in English it is in Times font (no problem). Then I switch to typing in Chinese and the font now is in STHei (no problem there either). Then I switch back to English and now the font is still using STHei but using the roman character set in the STHei font. It won't switch back to Times font unless I manually tell it to. This problem never occurred in Word 2004.

Thanks for the help!

We can't help with that one.

It's a bug in Word 2008.

Sorry.

Do you set your Chinese font and English font in the Font dialog in Word?
Could you see what font is selected in Asian text font and Latin text font
in the dialog? If Chinese and English font you want to to use in the
document are not set, please select them from the dropdown. If you have the
font on your machine and the problem still happening, please reply.

Thank you,
Keiko

I'm having exactly the same problem, and yes, I have set the fonts.
I'm also finding that conversion from simplified to traditional Chinese does not work in Word 2008. Both these problems are really annoying. I hope you can provide a fix soon.

I'm having the same problem, but with switching from English to Japanese and back to English. It'll change to MS 明朝 when I switch to Japanese input, but doesn't switch back to Times New Roman (or whatever other font I was using) when I switch back to the US input method.

MS, please fix this.

If you want Microsoft to read your plea, don't put it in here. They won't
read it here. This forum is just us fellow-users.

Use Help>Send Feedback to send your suggestion to Microsoft. They do read
that.
