Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I have imported emails messages long time ago after setting up a pop account in Entourage, and now I would like to restore them back to the original webmail. I Just found out the my ISP provides service for IMAP as well.
Because the important of these emails, I may be afraid to delete them completely if I don't do it right. So far I have been using Mail application for few months after I realized that my emails were gone from the server. Now that i found out the difference about pop and mail, I really want to change the existing account (in Entourage)from pop to imap, but I want to preserve the emails on entourage so I can later forwarding to the original server.

Can someone tell me how?
can I import those emails also to Mail app?

POP messages get to the On My Computer section.
You can copy them to the IMAP account (don't move, copy) or you can
make an Entourage archive before moving them.

That shouldn't be an issue :)
Just follow what I suggested and copy them from On My Computer to the
IMAP folders of your choice.

The On My computer section appears on the section on the left. The top
part is for Exchange and IMAP accounts and below, you should see the
folders "On My Computer.

To create an archive, all you need to do is to use the Export command,

That helps thanks. I actually imported the email straight from Mail application by doing File > Import. It shows a list of few applications to select from, which Entourage was there, and I imported all the data.

But I realized one thing, after creating an "Import" folder with all the messages imported from Entourage, when I move the messages from the "Import" folder to the Pop account, the mail shows in the inbox folder as an unread message (which is good), but not on the original server where I wish it would be the same. Whereas, when I move it to the other IMAP account, the email shows as an unread email in both the application Mail inbox and in the original server as well.

The problem is that you can't really sync back to a POP server. That's
the nature of these servers.
IMAP allows for that though :)

Does that mean that as I created an account in my Mail application as Pop, I can also have the same one as IMAP? Does It all depend from my ISP, or the application or the original server to have as IMAP? If that's the case. Should I delete the pop account in the appl and create it again as IMAP?

I would switch everything to IMAP.
I would not use POP from anywhere on an IMAP account since it would
delete the mails as it downloads them (which defies the purpose).
Simply inactivate the POP account.

Thanks I'll def do that. I know I might be asking too much now. But are you familiar on how to do it in Mail, or shall I start a new thread?

It's pretty much the same idea.
You can disable the POP account and recreate an IMAP account.
Once you're done, you can move the local e-mails to the IMAP folders of
your choice (if you need them to be accessible online or through other
computers).

Thanks that's pretty clear. Unfortunately, I just called my help desk college to have the setting to create the account as IMAP, and they told me that microsoft only offers as pop. How's that possible? But thanks anyway.

Everything is possible, but if it is a hosted Microsoft solution, it
sounds like Exchange, which means you can have POP, IMAP and Exchange.
They might not have enabled IMAP though...
You can ask them if they have Exchange. If you have the full version of
Office, you have Exchange support in Entourage and you might be able to
use that instead of IMAP.
