Switcting between Word and Excel

I want to work in Word and Excel at the same time and
have both on my screen at the same time. I can arrange
the windows to see both programs but when I go to Excel
the Work window closes. How can I make both stay visible
at the same time.

You say Word in one sentence, and Work in the other. There's no reason
why Word and Excel cannot both be open at the same time, unless you
are severely liminted in memory. I often have Word, Excel Access and a
few other programs all open at the same time.

For what it's worth, I just tried and have no problem with having
Works spreadsheet and Excel open at the same time either.
