Thanks. The /fixit link worked, and so does Symantec's
temporary solution. At least they acknowledged right
away that they created a problem!

Jay, I tried your symantec fix link and got this message:

"An error has occurred in the Symantec Knowledge Base.
This error will occur if you try to open a document for a
discontinued product."

I was at this site earlier and the fix from the redirect
didn't seem to do a thing. My machine is major messed up.
I have Norton SystemWorks 2002, which won't open and won't
uninstall. Word and Excel are not letting me open any docs
either.

Any ideas?

You need to go to the Symantec webs ite manually and search the
knowledge base with some key words that identify your problerm with
Systemworks - scroll thru the solutions to see if there is any help on
manually uninstalling SW2002

To fix the curent problem, you don't need to open SW - just NAV. If
there is an NAV icon in your Sys Tray (bottom RH cnr of your Taskbar,
double click that to open NAV. Go thru oprtions to Miscellaneous and
untick the Office plugin option.

You know it makes sense.
