Symbol font

I installed Office 2008 on my PowerMac G4 running Leopard 10.5.3.
The Symbol font works well in Word and Excel, but it does not
work in PowerPoint. It is in the font list, but selecting it does not
change the previously selected font. Other fonts do work, but there may
be others that do not.

Thanks for any help!
