Symbol Shortcut Keys?

B

Bopgun

I purchased OneNote for the purpose of taking notes in law school. I have
been very disappointed because I haven't been able to assign shortcut keys to
symbols that I frequently use. I have switched back to taking notes with
Word. Please tell me how I can I assign shortcuts to symbols in OneNote so
that I don't feel like I wasted my money. Thanks.

OneNote does not allow assigining short-cut keys to symbols, but there is
something very similar that you can try.
You can use Autocorrect to define a sequence of characters, such that when
you type them, autocorrect will automatically turn them into the symbol you
want. (Tools > AutoCorrect options). For example, somebody on this discussion
group mentioned that they defined $$ to be turned into §.

This professor of laws fully understand your needs for law school ;-)
But IMHO "short-cut *KEYS* would not be the proper approach for a
note-taking application especially for usage during a lecture where a
TabletPC would be the proper instrument.
I have switched back to taking notes with Word.

A bit radical, isn't it?
ON has to offer that much that you are punishing yourself.

Olya has already pointed to the Autocorrect feature.

Another way would be to use a shortcut key programs. There are tons
utilities for defining shortcuts to be firing with a certain
abbreviation and/or a list opened by the click on an icon in the
TaskTray.
I myself am using "PhraseExpress"
www.phraseexpress.com
a really fine freeware tool. But checking the usual download sites you
will find dozens of dozens of alternatives.
