symbols appear differently between two computers

a document we have viewed on two different computers only views correctly on
one. The symbols view as IDAutomationHC39M and any where there is a symbol
or bullet is leaves a symbol that looks like a long barcode. This used to be
a WordPerfect document and is now a Word document. We have checked all the
settings between both Word documents and the computers and can find no
difference to cause the document to view with the wrong symbol and print with
it. The symbols are supposed to be ' and ". We use Word 2002. Thanks.

WordPerfect documents often use the WP Typographic Symbols font for "curly"
quotes, em and en dashes, and the like. If you don't have this font
installed, they will not be properly represented on the screen. You could
install the font, but that just postpones the problem. A better solution is
to use Find and Replace to replace them with the appropriate characters from
the Default Paragraph Font ("normal text").
