Sync custom fileds from task to timesheets or vice versa

We've got a custom filed, let call it 'Ref No' defined on the task level..
when I edit my task I can put ref no to be 1234.. When I create a timesheet
(task level), it comes up empty and I can put 2345.. In other words the two
are not in sync (which I know kind of why).. but is there an easy (less < 1
week of effort :) ) way to have those two in sync?

Sounds like you are setting a value in the schedule at the task level. When
a timesheet is created, it would be displaying assignment level information
for custom fields, not task level information.

Try to change your custom field definition to "Roll down, unless manually
specified." This will copy the task level value into the assignment level
for all the resources assigned to the task. Then try creating the timesheet
and see if the data populates. If it doesn't then that is probably a bug
with timesheets and custom fields.

Question for you though. If the resources specify different Ref No for the
same task, what would you want to happen at the task level for this custom
field?
