"Sync" Entourage E-mail

Good evening.

I've been downloading my e-mails onto my new iMac (2008 model). I just purchased the new 13.3 Macbook and would like to "sync" or import the e-mails and their associated e-mails from the iMac to Macbook and vice versa after a trip on the road.

Well it doesn't appear as though there is a sync option for e-mails though I believe I've gotten my contacts, events, and tasks to sync (via the export/import process).

I exported my e-mails from the iMac to import on the Macbook. But unlike when I did a similar operation with Windows, the import created a separate folder called Main Identity.rge. Obviously that isn't going to help me.

How can I export/import so the e-mails and associated folders remain the same between the iMac and Macbook?

Is there an option to do this with Mobileme?

Thanks.

Your best bet is to use IMAP instead of POP if your ISP will support it;
many will. Check with them.

Ed is correct, use IMAP. More info:

I appreciate the responses and agree IMAP could be an alternative...but what if it isn't.

As an airline pilot, I spend much of my time on the road and need to work offline. I don't believe IMAP will help me in this situation.

I can accept an auto sync may not be available...but I would have thought I could simply export/import between the iMac and Macbook.

Is this not an option with Mac as it is with Windows?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

You could set up with IMAP and use a rule to copy messages to folders "On My
Computer". This will give you access to your emails when off line. However,
when you reply you have to be online.

Entourage stores all it's info in a database. As a result you need to copy
the entire database each time.

You might try this option:

Use an external drive for Microsoft User Data folder with alias in Documents
folder.

One user explains how they use this method:

I keep my Microsoft User Data folder on an external pocket firewire drive (a
large capacity USB thumb-drive will suffice if both machines have USB 2.0)
and just keep aliases to it in my Documents folder of all the machines I use
Entourage on (laptop, desktop and occasionally other machines I sit down in
front of for a few hours). Works like a charm and gives me an identical
environment on every machine.

You must quit the Microsoft Database daemon in order to eject the drive.
Is this not an option with Mac as it is with Windows?

Sorry, the answer is no.

Is there an option to do this with Mobileme?
You said you have a Mobileme account. If this is correct, are you
using mobileme's mail. If so, that is IMAP. Make sure you have your
clients on your various systems configured as IMAP. You can use IMAP
offline and respond offline. Your messages will be available offline
on any device and online at any web browser also if you go to the
mails web access. When you reconnect to the network your mail will be
sent. If you aren't using Mobileme what are you using.
