Sync Entourage with PDA

T

Terry

I don't understand why this should be so difficult. Every windows user
I know has a PDA that seamlessly synchs with Outlook to give contact,
calendar and task information. I bought a new PalmOne Zire 72 and I've
tried everything to get it to "hotsync" with Entourage on my Powerbook.
It connects fine. Bluetooth, cradle, cable- all connect fine. And it
sync's just fine with the newest version of "Palm Desktop" (4.0,
updated especially for Tiger). I just can't get my Entourage data
(calendar, contacts, tasks, etc) to sync. What am I missing? What am
I doing wrong? Entourage has to be the most widely used
contact/calendar program for the Mac on the planet and every computer
savy person has a PDA with all their data. What's the secret? HELP.

The secret is that you have to install and use the Entourage conduit.
Another "secret" is going to the Help menu and type in "Palm sync" or
similar, and read what it says.

For some reason, you haven't told us which version of Entourage you're
using. If it's 2004, you'll find the Handheld Sync Installer in the
Additional Tools folder in Microsoft Office 2004 folder, as the Help says.
(If you're in Entourage X, go to the MacTopia website/Downloads/Office v. X
and download its Microsoft Handheld Synchronization.

Double-click the installer, follow the instructions, then make sure that the
Entourage Conduit is set to synchronize in the HotSync Manager, and sync.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

I know your frustration. It seems that 'our' market just isn't big
enough, or something.

I know it is not a Palm, but I ran into the same problem most recently
again with trying to sync my Nokia 9300 to Entourage and was amazed that
there was a cheap little piece of software developed for this very
purpose, called GoBetweenEnt, available from
www.pocketmac.net/gobetween.html. It costs around $30 (from memory?)

It basically places what appears to be a device into iSync and whn you
request a sync, the sync takes place between your device and OSX's
address book and iCal and then GoBetween kicks in and syncs them to
Entourage. On the 9300, it works seamlessly. and so far, faultlessly.

Hope this helps you
