Is there an feature in OneNote 2007 that allows me to sync audio & text in
such a way so that, by clicking on say a sentence or even partially finished
sentence my device will automatically retrieve the correlating audio?

Yes, if the notes were taken while OneNote originally recorded the audio
(like in a lecture or something).

Otherwise, ON has no way to know where and how the synchronize the audio to
the written notes.

Hi Erik,
Thanks for that. I appreciate it.
Also,
1) My main task is to hand write with digital ink & record audio at the same
time, and want to see how I could do that most effectively with a handheld
device + onenote 2007. Would the UMPC suffice?

2) Also, I'm hoping to take one hour of notes + audio recording each time I
use my handheld + onenote and unload onto a lap top when I get home (the
reason why I wouldn't just take the lap top with me is because I'll sometimes
be standing or be outdoors while I'm taking notes). And Would I be able to
do that with the UMPC (store about 1 hr. of info. - text + audio and unload
to laptop)?

Thank you

Sorry, Erik, this no longer is the case.
ON 2007 is far more clever than you think <gbg>.

In ON 2007 annotating existing audio during playback works really
great.
And it also works with recordings taking with any other (external)
device and imported into ON, audio files ripped from a CD etc.

It needs nothing more than importing the audio file, starting the
playback and typing.
Each new line (EnterKey) will create a new "jump point".

I made up two examples which I show everybody (if he/she likes it not
<bg>) for demonstrating how powerful ON is (oh yes, I'm trying hard to
make proselytes! <gb>).

No. 1 is a 45min recording of a speech I held at a congress and
recorded with my iPAQ on an SD card.
No. 2 is a song from the fantastic new CD of Mark Knopfler & Emmilou
Harris with the corresponding page of the CD inlay with the lyrics
(scanned).

For No. 1 I created a TOC.
For No. 2 I made um "jump points" for each verse and the chorus.

Works really great.
End all of the victims' reaction is "WOW!!!!" <bg>.

If you like to, I can mail you the pages or upload them to my
FTP-site.

Yes.
It works really great. And ON uses a very efficient compression so
that the audio files are rather small.

It also works with recordings imported into ON (pls also see my reply
to Erik Sojka's posting).

Depends.
The UMPCs' screen is really small. So I doubt that efficient
notetaking will be possible.
I'm reaching the limits already with my TabletPC's 10.4" display with
1024*7698 resolution.
2) Also, I'm hoping to take one hour of notes + audio recording each

IMO a TabletPC might a better choice. No problem to hold it in the
hand when standing and/or outdoors.

Storage capacity is no issue at all in so far.
But the screen real estate for sure is.

Don't buy anything without having extensively testes how you can
manage writing on the screen.
