Sync issues

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I am getting duplicate events coming from I guess Ical in entourage.

Had some issues with Isync in that my Iphone/entourage/Ical didn't have the same thing and was told to reset Isync history.

Now even after that, I clear all duplicate events( in entourage and Ical) I go back and they all return. Have 4 duplicates right now.

In Entourage preferences do you have more than one module turned on
for sync. If you do this will lead to dups. Just run with one sync
module turned on like Calendar and Tasks.

Do you mean the three choices of -sync contacts, sync events and tasks with ICal and sync entourage notes? If so what do I do if I want to sync both Calendar and contacts?
Both of those are checked right now.

If not them what modules are you talking about?

Yes, the three modules and it sounds like you have them all turned on.
The way to avoid sync issues is to have only one turned on at a time.
So lets say that's cal and tasks but now you need to sync contacts. Go
into Ent prefs and turn off the active module, click on the module you
want to sync and at the ok a dialogue will pop up and at this choose
combine. If you have a disk and CPU monitor wait till they've calmed
down and the sync is complete. Now go back into Ent sync prefs and
turn off contacts, turn on cal and at the ok choose combine.

This method provides 100% reliable syncs. The sync issue with Ent has
not been resolved so if you don't want to deal with sync messes you
have to do this even though its a bit of a nuisance.

Two other things I suggest. Make sure you have reliable backups
(everything Ent quit so search in the forum for Quit Daemon where
Diane referenced me to a great Applescript). Secondly, evaluate
carefully whether you need to use entourage or whether just the apple
apps ical etc would work. There are no sync issues with these and if
you don't need all the power of Entourage they provide much cleaner
syncs with handhelds.

Let me know if this helps and how you make out.

Hey Kerry, thanks for the input. Seems wrong that I would have to use it like that, program should work better then that. Anyway, not even that is working right now. Can't even sync up calendars at all. I have at least 7 duplicates right now and counting. Cannot sync anything calendar wise.

Even unsycned Ical continues to to multiply events. Entourage stopped.

I think what I'd do is start from scratch. You're right it should work
better but Microsoft probably won't fix this as Outlook will be out
soon and this has been like this since it came out.

To start from scratch go to Apple.com/support and get support article
TS1627. Follow this for your OS but make sure you turn of all
Entourage checking. Once you've reset sync serv restart your computer.
This is what I'd do next making sure sync in Ent is off. Go into iCal
and delete the Ent calendar (have backups). Now go to Ent and turn on
say cal sync and choose combine. It will repopulate iCal with a new
sync'd calendar. When sync'g your handhelds, choose overwrite on
firrst sync. Now everything is reset and clean. I've been running with
1 module for two years without incident. Annoying yes but it works if
you need Entourage. If you don't need the power of Entourage just use
the Apple apps.
