Sync Outlook Contacts with BlackBerry Pearl 8100 - Format of phnum

When I import contacts from Excel, phone numbers are automatically
reformatted, e.g. +441932244523 is changed to add a space after the +44 i.e.
+44 1932244523.
This is OK in Outlook but when I sync with my BlackBerry the space stays
and, whilst it works OK for dialing, when a caller dials in, the number sent
to me does not 'match' and so the caller's name in my BlackBerry contacts is
not shown before I answer. Can the import from Excel or the sync to
BlackBerry be changed to lose the space? Thanks
