Sync problems with Groove

T

tom_the-confused

Hi,

My Groove setup is two laptops (laptop A and Laptop B) with Server 2003.

Groove is installed on all three using the account of laptop A.

Laptop A and B sync together Ok, Laptop A syncs with the server but laptop B
doesn't sync with the server.

On laptop B the launcher window shows Groove syncing out but not downloading
from the server.

Any suggestions please how I overcome this?

Hi Tom,

I guess you setup both Laptop B and the Server 2003 by using the same
backup file of the Groove account you made on Laptop A.

That's where it went wrong. As soon as you inject your Groove account
on a new device, the backup file becomes obsolete.

As you may have noticed, Groove keeps a list of devices.
See menu: options/preferences/account

I am sure that Laptop A lists all 3 devices, whereas Laptop B and the
Server 2003 only list 2.

How to resolve?

Provided that above assumptions are right (check lists of devices)

In chronological order:

1
Ensure that Groove data on Laptop B and Server 2003 has been
synchronized to Laptop A

2
Remove the Groove account from Laptop B and from server 2003 (menu:
options / preferences / account / delete account)

3
On Laptop A : check list of devices and if needed, remove devices
"laptop B" and "Server 2003" from the list.

4
On Laptap A : make a brand new backup of the Groove account (menu:
options / preferences / account / save account as file)

5
On Server 2003: use the newly created backup to setup the Groove account.

6
Once done, check that both Laptop A and Server 2003 list 2 devices.

7 IMPORTANT
If both devices are correctly listed, then again, make a brand new
backup of the Groove account

8
On Laptop B: use the latest account backup file to setup the Groove account.

By using a backup of the Groove account that correctly lists both
devices, the devices will be correctly "introduced" to each other.

9
A final check on all three devices whether the list contains the 3
devices. They should.

Devices should synchronize fine now.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Tom,

It seems that you setup both Laptop B and the Server with the same
account backup file of Laptop A.

As Groove maintains a list of devices on which your account is
installed, it is important to always use a brand new account backup
file. Once you setup your account on a new device, the account backup
file becomes obsolete.

As you used a single backup file, only Laptop A got "introduced" to
Laptop B and the Server. Laptop B and the Server do not know each other.

See also Groove's preferences on each machine for the list of devices
(menu: options / preferences / account)

- Remove the accounts from the Server and from Laptop B.
- Clean up the list of devices on Laptop A.
- Laptop A : Save account as file ("backup file 1")
Important : Do not use your "old" account backup file
- Setup Groove on Laptop B (use "backup file 1")
- Once done, save account as file ("backup file 2")
- Setup Groove on Server (use "backup file 2")
- Finally check on all 3 machines that the list of devices is OK.

Hope this helps :)
