Here's a hypothetical situation involving syncing Entourage 2004 (in OS X
10.4.2) that I'd like to run by the Newsgroup, in case anyone has tried it
and has made it work. It's hypothetical for me because I don't yet own an
iSync compatible phone, and I don't yet use AvantGo. But that could change
in the near future. (At present, all I do is sync Entourage with my Palm
m130 (Palm OS 4) using Palm HotSync (v3.2) and the supplied Entourage
conduits.) So, here's what I would want to do, all at once:
1: Sync Entourage Address Book, Calendar and Tasks with an iSync compatible
phone.
2: Continue syncing the above 3 data types, plus Entourage Notes,
with my Palm m130.
3: Sync AvantGo channels with my Palm m130.
Let's consider 1 & 2 to start. From what I can tell through my surfing, 1
is best solved by e2Sync Tiger, while 2 can be solved by continuing to use
Palm HotSync and the Entourage Conduit for Notes only. So, if I'm not
mistaken, launching a sync from the Palm cradle or iSync would make
Entourage, the Palm, the phone and Apple's iApps all sync together for
Address Book, Calendar and Tasks, while Palm HotSync syncs Notes between
Entourage and the Palm (as well as syncing other conduits, like Pocket
Quicken and Vindigo).
Question-Cluster A is, does anyone out there use the syncing scenario above?
Does it work, and is that how it works? My point of confusion/concern is
whether or not having two different syncing mechanisms tapping the Entourage
database at the same time would cause a problem--even though they are
tapping different data types within the database. But perhaps the 2
different syncs happen in sequence, thus avoiding a problem?
Now, it gets more complicated when I want to do 3 as well as 1 & 2. Since
AvantGo doesn't supply a conduit for OS X themselves, Missing Sync for Palm
is apparently the best way to sync AvantGo channels with a Palm device. But
Missing Sync replaces Palm HotSync entirely, assuming responsibility for all
of its conduits. So adding 3 to the mix would mean that we'd substitute
Missing Sync for HotSync in the scenario above, with Notes being the only
Entourage conduit enabled, and Missing Sync handling the AvantGo conduit
(and any others).
So Question-Cluster B is, would all of this work? Has anyone tried do 1, 2 &
3 at the same time? Do e2sync and Missing Sync play nice together? And would
there still be the possibility of a problem with the 2 programs accessing
the Entourage database simultaneously?
Thanks for indulging my lengthy story problem!
