So its not only Entourage that is having trouble with sync services.
I've always thought it is something to do with Entourage that is
causing the problem. But I bought Contactizer Pro last week,
fortunately on sale and I see in their roadmap they are abandoning
sync services. This is a piece from their roadmap as posted on their
website for v3.9:
• 3.9 will offer a new major sync architecture. We are currently
removing ALL the Apple Sync Services compatibility. This Apple's tech
is too much unstable and aleatory when users have complex data to sync
between a lot of "Sync clients". v3.9 will be also a official client
for Contactizer Mobile companion. Should be available in May-June
(maybe before because it's a very urgent goal for us and for a lot of
our customers).
I did ask that if they implement this, will it sync info over to iCal
and Addressbook as that's the way info gets to my BlackBerry and Palm.
From what I've read, that appears to be the case but I wanted
clarification. I can see why they are doing this after reading a
number of the posts in the forum and the amount of work Objective
Decisions has put into making this work and I gather there are still
issues. For me, it seems to work fine but they point out for some it
works alright and for others its a mess much like Entourage. Maybe
what they're doing is what Microsoft should do with Ent08???
Sync seems to be one area where the Mac seems to be pretty messed up
and its so important to today's mobile world. On Windows, what I can
see is that mobile products that sync, such as the BlackBerry and Palm
provide their own sync apps from the company and they work fine. Sync
services is a nice idea in concept however, it sure has caused me lots
of problems especially with Entourage when 2008 came out. Now I see
that even the people at Objective-Decisions, who makes Contactizer
Pro, have issues but it looks like they've found a way to get around
sync services.
