synch with zire 31: is GoBetween necessary

i am running OS 10.3.4 on a G4 powerbook. i have Entourage 2004. i
simply want a handheld that synchs with the calendar, tasks and
contacts in Entourage. i bought a zire 31 from palm one. my
understanding was that I needed the software GoBetween, a 3rd party
application, to synch Entourage with the zire. however, GoBetween has
not worked and their technical support people are now working on a
solution, but have been doing do for over a month.

my question: do i need GoBetween? it seems from some of these postings
that I don't, that i can just use the software that came with my zire.

thanks so much!

GoBetween shouldn't be necessary. Provided you've already installed Palm's
software, I would recommend that you install the included Entourage conduit
(/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Handheld Sync
Installer). That should allow you to synchronize with the Zire 31.

To avoid accidental data loss, synchronization between Entourage 2004 and
palmOne's new handhelds is turned off by default. Follow this procedure to
turn on synchronization after both Palm synchronization software and the
Microsoft Handheld Synchronization software have been installed:
1. Launch the HotSync Manager application (usually located in
HD/Applications/Palm)
2. Under the HotSync menu, choose Conduit Settings.
3. Double-click the "Entourage Conduit" entry.
4. Near the bottom, check the option to "Enable synchronization with these
new handhelds."
5. Click OK.

The handhelds that are affected by this issue are the ones that have
"Organizer Plus," including Zire 31, Zire 72, Tungsten E, Tungsten T3, and
Tungsten T5. These include updated organizer applications with new fields
that aren't recognized by the Entourage conduit. As a result, that data is
not transferred and changes can be lost.
