Synching with Palm TX

B

Brian Smithson

Just switched to a Mac (G5) from Windows and I want to synch with Entourage
but I find that, after installing the Mac software from the Palm CD, I do
not have an Entourage conduit available.

Reading on the Mactopia site, it suggests that there ought to be one. How do
I go about doing this? I have been able to synch quite easily with Palm
Desktop but I do not like the interface.

Hi Brian,

you'll need to run the Handheld Sync Installer, which can be found in
Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools. You should know, however, that some
fields are not synchronised with the newer Palm OS software since the
Entourage conduit is kind of dated. See here for more details:

Thanks Michel. I guess I need to research further before attempting these
things ! :)

Yes, the conduit is quite dated and very annoying. I was hoping that the
latest update might have addressed the issue with synchronizing with "new"
Palm handhelds (which don't qualify as "new after being around for about two
years) but no dice. I have a Tungsten E2 that, if I use Oracle Calendar
Sync under Windows, it works great, so the problem can be solved.

Any idea when the Entourage conduit might be updated? Granted that MS is
focusing on Windows devices, but you can't ignore a significant bug that
affects a significant user base. At least, I assume that Palm OS devices
still have a significant user base...maybe the Mac/Entourage base isn't big
enough?

I'm not even sure the conduit will ever be updated again now that Office
can sync to Sync Services. The Missing Sync 5.1b and SyncServices do a
pretty good job for me. If you are running Tiger and have TMS you should
probably give it a try,
