Synchronising A Site

C

Cerebral Believer

Hi everybody,

I created a website with another application, and now want to manage the
site using Frontpage. I am in a mess because everytime I try to synchronise
work I have done locally, with work that is already on the remote server,
Frontpage creates a new folder (the name of my local folder) on my remote
server, and uploads the folders and files into that. Why doesn't Frontpage
upload the files into the "www" folder (and various subdirectories) where
the rest of the remote content is? That is the folder I have selected in
the remote website pane, and also that is the directory specified in the
"Remote Web Site Properties" dialogue.

What should I do to correct this?

Regards,
C.B.

What path are you using for the local (on your PC - In File Open Site)
and remote (on the server) FP sites in the Remote Site Properties

Stefan,

I think the issue is resolved now, I had to create a subsite in the My Web
Sites folder. Generally my websites are all in the My Web Sites folder, in
a subfolder by the name of that particular site. I also had to disable
Norton's Firewall to upload/download for some reason.

C.B.

Norton does that.
You may grow to hate Norton.

What kind of error message were you getting that led you to disable Norton?

Rob,

Yes Norton can be a bit of a pain, but so far it has protected my system
very well, I would say I am 90% happy with the product. There always a
workaround, I just created a new firewall rule for FrontPage and my hosting
providers FTP server, so now things should be OK.

Hi Kathleen,

The error I recieved ran something along the lines of "Couldnot find a web
server on Port 21. Please check that your connection settings are correct
and that you have correctly configured any proxy server you may be using.
If these settings are correct then your web server may be offline or
disabled"

Anyway I just decided to create a new firewall fule for FrontPage and my
hosting companies FTP server, so I hope things will be OK now, thanks.

Regards,
C.B.
