Synchronization with AD Project 2003

I'm new to Project and Project Server 2003. In Project Web Access at
http://localhost/ProjectServer/Admin/sec_organization.asp?_oid=-1
under Server Configuration I'm trying to synchronize the Active
Directory group. When I enter a valid AD group name and click the
Update Now button I get the following error:

The Active Directory group failed to synchronize with the Enterprise
Resource Pool on 01/03/2004 at 12:14 PM.

Will someone please shed some light on this for me?

Thanks

Check the event log on the projectserver machine - post the relevant (AD
synch) parts here and we'll take a look at them.

I have the same problem. Here is info I collected

I try and synchronize a Active Directory group in Project Web Access /ProjectServer/admin/sec_organization.asp page
and I get this failure message "The Active Directory group failed to synchronize with the Enterprise Resource Pool on 1/16/2004 at 1:43 PM.

I know these groups exist because I can add them to my Sharepoint Portal Server groups

Project Server is running on a site that has WSS running on it.

When I look in the Event Viewer Log I get following Descriptions
Component: AD Connecto
File: AutoADProces
Line: -
Description:
AD Res Pool Sync - Accessing AD Groups failed : (20000)FetchGroup: <Error><Component>AD Connector </Component><File>AutoADProcess</File><Line>-1</Line><Number>0x4e20</Number>
The AD group name is invalid.] ]>
</Error></Description

How do you enter the name of the AD group? For instance, if you want to
synch your PWA Administrators group to the AD domain administrators group,
simply enter "Domain Admins" as the name of the AD group.

Do you have access rights to the AD group you're trying to synch? I.e.: Does
the NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE on your server have those rights or is that
account on this server excluded from seeing the AD?

Have you created a non-default schema in the AD, where a field PWA is
looking for isn't in use? (I'm not sure which fields are being queried, but
I do know that for instance the Full Name cannot be empty in the AD...
learnt that the hard way)

Sorry - I'm running my AD sync tests on the AD server... that's why I
thought to ask about local system account - in "real life" this is often not
so. <blush>

Try changing the account the "Project Server Scheduled Process Service" is
running under to a domain account with sufficient rights to access the AD.
Don't know if this is required or if your policy settings allow any
registered computer to access these settings regardless.

I have read all the threads and I still do not understand what is
missing.

Does the local system account need access to AD? If so, where would I
give the system account these rights?

I have tried a number of AD groups and continue to have this problem.
Further help is very much appreciated.

The error message in event viewer is as follows..
Component: AD Connector
File: AutoADProcess
Line: -1
Description:
AD Res Pool Sync - Accessing AD
Groups failed : (20004)FetchGroup: <Error><Component>AD Connector
to get record of group lg_eng\lg-EVERYWHERE from active directory
global catalog] ]>
</Error>
