Synchronize on "frequently used" contacts

Jason

I have Outlook 2007 and an LG phone with windows mobile which syncs
with ActiveSync 4.5. My contact list has grown to almost 1800
contacts. When ever I need to search for a contact on my phone, it
takes a while I'm assuming due to the large amount of contacts. Out of
those 1800, there's probably a few hundred that I frequently use. Is
there a way to only sync the most frequently used contacts? Any
Microsoft solutions or maybe a 3rd party solution?

Thanks for the help.

Many software programs that do the synchronisation allow you to select which
Categories synchronise. Does yours?
Alternatively, split your contacts into a Sub-folder which will not synch.

That depends on your phone. Some support filtering based on categories. So
for instance, you can assign certain contacts in Outlook the custom "Phone"
category and you configure ActiveSync to only sync contact items which have
the Phone category. Check the manual of your phone or contact your supplier
to find out if you phone supports it as not all do.

An alternative is to keep only your main contacts in the Contacts folder and
store other contacts in another Contacts folder. As ActiveSYnc only syncs
you main Contacts folder, you automatically filter out the rest.

ActiveSync allows limiting synching by category. Assign your frequent
contacts the "Frequent" (or some other) category and modify the Contacts sync
optons to include only that category.

thanks for the suggestions... creating a separate category such as
"frequent" and syncing only that category sounds like a good idea.
Thanks again.

Ok, I am in the process of syncing 1 category only for contacts. When
I connect my device, right click on contacts, the "settings" button is
greyed out. It's as if I can't set any options for the contacts.

Connect the device. Open ActiveSync. Click Options. Select Contacts. Click
Settings. Click "Synchronize only those contacts in the following selected
categories". Uncheck all but the category you want. Click OK, then OK again.
