Synchronize with Project Server function in Shared Documents

Hi and Good morning:
I am using MSP 2003 and would like to know what the Synchronize with Project
Server function is that is located in the shared documents portion of WSS
sites. Anyone that can access a document site can see this function (located
on the navigation pane on the left side of the screen last item there) Can
anyone tell me what this does? It is not an admin function so I'm assuming
it does something different. When I select it I get this box:
"If you have edited the list in Excel or Access, it is recommended that you
synchronize items in Shared Documents with Project Server, so all the list
items can be linked to the project. Click OK to synchronize the list with
Project Server. It may take a few moments. click Cancel to close the dialog
box without synchronizing with Project Server."

Thank you (PS - I wasn't sure if I should post this in the Server group or
Developer groups so I posted in both)

Are you applying the datasheet view when you see this? If so, it is possible
to make changes to document properties and other list items outside of
SharePoint and within Office applications sucha as Excel or Access. When you
do this, you need to synchronize changes back to SharePoint.

If you are seeing this from the Admin Section under Manage SharePoint Sites,
then you are looking at a feature that is meant to synchronize permissions
between Project Server and the SharePoint sites.

Hi - I am seeing this as it pertains to documents (not the admin portion).
Can you tell me then when you mention "changes to document properties and
other list items outside of SharePoint and within Office applications sucha
as Excel or Access" - Couple questions:
One - does this apply only to Excel or Access? Or does it apply to Word,
etc.
Two - how would the user know when to utilize this feature?

Thank you so much - your assistance is invaluable in this group.

Click on the link and it will tell you why and when you need to use it.
Essentially, it is there to synchronize summary data to Project Web Access
when you make changes to the document properties or the Library itself with
Excel or Access.
