Synchronizing organinzational charts

I am using Visio 2003 Technical. I developed an organizational chart from an
Excel sheet. In an earlier (less edited) version of this org chart, I am
able to synchronize departments by clicking on the manager.

In the final version I am using, I do not get the dialog box when I click
the command to synchronize. Status goes to ready. I have tried this command
on several different departments.

Is my file too big? Did I reformat something? I do not want to rebuild
this org chart if I do not have to.

Thank you for your help.

It sounds like the Organization Chart solution is not functioning.

Do the other Organization chart functions work? (Change Position Type,
Arrange Subordinates, Insert Picture)

Are automation events enabled? (Tools->Options, select Security Tab, ensure
that the "Enable Automation Events" box is checked).

Hi again:

My mistake - I am using Visio 2000 (technical). Are automation events were
enabled under (Tools->Options, Advanced Tab). I cannot change Position Type
or arrange Subordinates. I can insert objects but did not try to insert
pictures.

I am at a loss. Thanks again.

More information: I went into the earlier version of the file to try the
synchro commands. I can make a department org chart but changes to the
either do not take effect. Is this to happen immediately or is there a
"calculation" button.

Also, when I layout subordinates on a very small department, it hangs up my
computer - at least up to 10 minutes then I get frustrated and end the
application. Do I have enough memory to run this programme?

Frustration is mounting :)

I am less familiar with the Org Chart solution in Visio 2000 (I was working
on a different solution back then), but it sounds like the solution is not
getting loaded or is "crashing" after it loads. Visio solutions can stop
functioning without crashing Visio itself and without notifying the user -
particularly in versions prior to Visio 2003.

Does this only happen with this one particular document? If so, I suspect
that there is something in the document that is causing the problem. The
solution in this case is to re-create the drawing. If you are having
problems with all your Org Charts, then something more serious is going on
and you may want to re-install Visio.
