Synchronizing Palm with Entourage 2008

Just installed Office 2008. Need to download new conduit to be able to synch with my Palm device (Life Drive). Where can I download the right conduit?

I was told by someone in my company - you can't sync with Palm, and maybe won't be able to either

Microsoft has chosen to support all Palm synchronization using Apple's
Sync Services. They are no longer making a conduit to do this.

Check the available Palm sync options in iSync.

FYI, syncing in Entourage 2008 currently seems to be having lots of
problems. Be sure to test and keep a close eye on your items for a while.

Hope this helps!

This is a hotly discussed topic on the forum and elsewhere (e.g.
Markspace). I've decided to get a refund for 2008 as it has been just
too time consuming and frustrating dealing with this issue. I've used
Microsoft porducts since the 80's and Office through the 90's till
now. I first started with Outlook and went to Entourage when I
switched to the Mac 4 years ago. I've never had an issue or problem
with MS products till now. But this is a killer problem based on the
way I've worked with my handheld's and desktop for 10 years.

I'll probably use iCal and Addressbook even though they are not nearly
as powerful (and may have problems also) but using iCal through sync
services is just adding a piece which has created a mess. The conduit
in 2004 was so reliable, fast and stable. This strategy of Microsoft's
(I can't believe this got out the door in this state) just sucks.

I totally agree and may well ask for a refund too - I bought mine from Amazon I think. Even Excel has issues.
I agree 2004 was far more stable and imho better.
I could go back to 2004 at this point.
I spent a lot of time looking a Apple mail, address and ical last night because I need my sync too. There some things missing, like syncing palm categories and custom fields and there are no keyword options in those, something I use a lot. But looks like the only way I can sync with palm is go back to Entourage 2004, with its problems, or drop it altogether which is looking like the way I'll go.

UPS is picking up the stuff they need tomorrow. However I decided to
check with Microsoft just one more time if there was a fix coming. I
talked to a rep I talked to way back in the beginning and now, unlike
then, they are fully aware of the problem. She even said is it more
iCal isn't sending things to Entourage rather than the reverse and I
said exactly. They've heard nothing on a fix but said they have to be
looking at it due to the number of emails the reps have been sending
to the product team. This is one of their most major issues.

I'm just not confident that this can be fixed rapidly and I've wasted
so much time on it. One of the main engineers, over at Markspace,
indicated there are even some problems in Ical itself with sync
services and Apple's hard at work on that. I asked if this is an
Entourage problem or an Apple problem and he said that the trouble
we're experiencing in Entourage is specific to Entourage. But, it
seems there is more to one layer to the issue. I think I'd rather go
back to Entourage when all this is sorted out.

After several tries a colleague seems to have found the solution and it was easier than expected, I simply dragged the previous application located in: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Handheld Sync to /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools and then executed it. This solved the problem. Just make sure you have previously downloaded the right conduit from the Microsoft page. In case anyone is still interested in Hotsynching their Palm devices with Entourage 2008.

Oscar, that's a very interesting way to solve the problem. Did it really work --i.e. were you able to sync Entourage 2008, including Notes, with your Tréo? No dupes, no problems? Share with us!

Please note that "Palm devices" is not enough details. Apparently, Entourage 2008 can sync quite well with iSync to Palm PDAs --but not Tréo smartphones. It's as if both Apple and Microsoft were trying to kill Palm's phones so that we only buy iPhones or Windows Mobile phones...

Greetings everyone:

I just spent 2 hours with an apple professional trying to synch
1) Entourage 2008 with Palm Desktop
2) Ical with Palm Desktop
3) ICAL with Entourage 2008

We successfully imported the data base from Palm Desktop into iCal, but
that's about the end of our success. All I really need, is for my calendars
to be synched between Palm desktop and Entourage 2008.

Is there any hope, or am I wasting my time? Are there any third party conduits
that work for this purpose????

You need 'The Missing Sync' from Mark/space software <https://www.markspace.com&gt <https://www.markspace.com&gt>;
It will do this.

But frankly, I've given up on Entoutrage - after many years a happy user since Office for OS 9 - I got so fed up with problems in 2008, not to mentions sync issues. I've switched to Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal - and boy do I wish I'd done that a few years ago.

The only reason I have Office now is for Word & Excel and if they don't fix the issues with them PDQ I might just drop those too! I know this is not the thread, but Excel 2008 on my new 2.8GHz iMac is slower than 2007 on my G4!

Yes I did what you did but I do need the power of Entourage. I found a
way of sort of working around the sync problems but its convoluted.
Microsoft sure made a mess of 2008. If it weren't for the sync issues,
it would be perfect for me. However from my discussions with them I
think the absolute fix, where we don't have to go through gyrations to
ensure a stable sync, is a ways in the making.

What is it that Entourage does that Mail doesn't and you need so much?
There may be a workaround

What is it that Entourage does that Mail doesn't and you need so much?
There may be a workaround

I categorize everything, link important items to others, say a contact
etc is the control and if I'm working on a project everything is
linked into that. I also have canned searches that are fairly
sophisticated. None of this is possible in iCal (best a boolean
search). I've for a long time used Entourage and before that Outlook
to manage and massage my raw data, either created on my Palm or in
Entourage. iCal just doesn't cut it. Its great if you just need a
simple calendar. Even mail is great if you need just plain mail. But
if a mail item relates to a project, a client or whatever, Entourage
can create these relationships thus turning the data into rich
information. again, the Mac apps cannot do this or at least not at
this level. For many, what I'm doing might not be necessary but for me
it is. Its how I pull everything together before I say write my report/
document/research results etc. It makes the writing very
straightforward.

That is all very true - wow.
I basically just need a simple pragma!
Yes you could do all that with Office 2004, just not sure about 2008 now.
sorry, I can't help.
Personally, I think you may be beyond help - completely addicted to MS :)
