Hi all
I've spent quite a while searching around for a definitive answer to this
problem, but haven't yet found a solution.
Here's my setup:
***************
Windows Server 2003 AD (Windows Server 2003 Forest Functional Level)
Project Server 2003 SP1 running on Windows Server 2003 SP1
Here's the problem.
******************
When I set up a sync with an AD Group, I see the following error in the
application event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Project Server Tracing Eventlog Provider
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2
Date: 26/07/2005
Time: 3:44:20 p.m.
User: NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE
Computer: AP1
Description:
Component: AD Connector
File: AutoADProcess
Line: -1
Description:
GetGlobalCatalog: -2147016646-Automation
error
The server is not operational.

There are also three other errors logged each time with the same source,
category and error number, but slightly different descriptions. The error
copied above is the first one.
Here's what I've tried so far to resolve the problem.
*********************************************
1. I've checked the name I entered in PWA matches the AD group name
exactly, including checking for trailing spaces.
2. The Server Scheduled Process Service was logged on as the local system
account. I changed this temporarily to log on with an AD Domain Admin
account, in case the issue was related to AD permissions.
3. I've tried representing the group name in PWA in different ways, e.g.
name only, domain\name and name@domain.
4. I've started the Project Server Connector Service, which by default is
set to Manual.
5. I've implemented all the relevant recommendations made on pages 39 and
40 of the Project Server 2003 Administrators Guide.
6. I've rebooted the machine several times (well, it can't hurt!).
7. I've checked that there is a GC available in the site and that it is
operational and can be seen and queried from the machine running Project
Server.
I've now reached the point where I've tried all the suggestions I can think
of and I've scoured the web. The next stop is to put a call into PSS, unless
someone has another idea?
