Syncing Entourage Mail + Folders with Google Apps

Email Client: imap

How do I go about syncing all of my existing mail folders (used to be with Exchange, but now with Google Apps) using IMAP?

When I create the new IMAP connection for my Google Apps, it creates a new set of inbox, deleted, drafts, sent, etc...

Even though I could recreate my existing folders within the new IMAP master folder, as soon as I move my old emails from the old folder to the new IMAP based folder, the dates all change to the time at which they've been moved (today).

Any ideas?

Ideally, I'd rather set the default folders to be connected to Google Apps via IMAP, but I can't figure out how to do this.

That's typical behavior. Sort by Sent and not Received.

New in Labs: Advanced IMAP Controls

Gmail Advanced IMAP Controls, a Labs feature that lets you fine-tune your
Gmail IMAP experience. You can choose which labels to sync in IMAP -- useful
if you find your mail client choking on a big [Gmail]/All Mail folder.

After enabling this Lab, just go to the Labels tab under Settings. You'll
see a new 'Show in IMAP' checkbox next to each of your labels. Uncheck the
box and the corresponding folder will disappear from IMAP.

Hello Diane,

Those links have definitely helped with separate questions I had, but unfortunately, my original problem still persists. I have no way of uploading old emails and maintaining the original dates. Even if I sort the imap account by sent or received (which didn't make a difference btw), I don't see how that would change anything in the webmail version.

Thanks anyway,

Keven

Try dragging the messages to folders "On My Computer" and see if the Sent
dates will show correctly.

Hi Keven!

The Sent dates are not changing when you drag messages to your Gmail
account. the *Received* dates will change, however. Those are two
completely different date/time stamps.

Sent dates are embedded into the mail message by the sender and cannot
be changed. Received dates are not part of the mail message but rather
they are tagged onto your mail message as additional information by your
mail client. This will change every time the message is copied.

Unfortunately, the Received date appears to be the only date that Gmail
will show you in its web interface. I can't find a way to make it show
the Sent date. This is, unfortunately, a limitation of Gmail. Entourage
is doing nothing wrong.

In Entourage, you can select either the Sent or Received columns for
your folders.

Hope this helps!
