Syncing to Protected Actuals

We are going through a process where we are completing some plan compliance with our PM's. Part of this process requires making changes to task dates and adjust work hrs and remaining work. I have found that when I go to save the plan that I receive a message "Do you want to sync to protected actuals?" If I click yes, all the changes I have made do not save, if I click no then I am unable to make the changes.

I understand the difference between Actual Work and Actual Work Protected however what do I do to resolve my issue??

Please Help!

Nisco:

Given the adjustments that you're making, you need to turn off managed time
periods long enough to make these changes. When you make the changes and
while MTP is turned off, you must republish selecting to overwrite actual
work in timesheets to cause the synch to go the other way. At this point you
can turn on MTP again.
