Syncing with USB Flash Drive

Successfully followed article in David Rasmussen's blog on USB syncing.
However, I have run into a problem.
I already had existing OneNote notebooks when I set up the USB notebook. I
used the "move" feature to move notebooks and sections from existing
notebooks into the new USB notebook.
The problem is that embedded links to word files, .pdf's etc. cannot be
opened on the second computer b/c the actual word file, .pdf etc. is not
synced with the link.
I want to have the same access to linked docs on both computers -- how to
manage?
Thanks

Are these text links or icon links? You say they are "embedded links" but
I need to be sure because people have so many definitions for things.

Word, adobe .pdf and ms imaging icons that, when clicked, open the document
(at least they do on the source computer).

With ON 07 B2TR the files are supposed to be directly embedded in the
..ONE files. So, if you copy or move the .ONE file it moves ALL the
embedded stuff with it.

Do you have enough room on the laptop for the cache folder? On the
laptop, go to { Tools / Options ; Save ; Cache File Location } and see
where it is storing the cache. Then make sure you have enough room on
that drive for a complete copy of all the OneNote stuff you are opening
from the thumb drive.

As soon as you open a notebook on a computer, OneNote copies all of the
..ONE files from wherever they are stored to the cache folder and extracts
all of the embedded files and places them in a subfolder of that folder
called OneNoteOfflineCache_Files. When you double-click on an icon,
OneNote copies the copy from the OneNoteOfflineCache_Files folder into
your TEMP folder and then opens that temporary copy. Once you have
finished editing that temporary third copy, OneNote copies that one back
into the OneNoteOfflineCache_Files folder. When you plug the thumb drive
back in OneNote will synchronize the modified file back into the .ONE
file on the thumb drive in embedded form.

On the laptop, when you opened the files from the thumb drive did you
open them as a notebook or did you open individual .ONE files?

I am looking into the broken attachments issue to see if we can repro this.

As far as access to same notes on two machines, do you have a share that
both machines have access to that you could store your notebooks on? This is
the best way to achieve what you want.
