syntax error when sending

V

vetaylor

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I get an error when sending to groups (that have worked fine before) or multiple addresses. The latest error said: 4.1.8 - Domain of recipient does not resolve [R0309001]. Other times it says: 5.5.2 RCPT TO syntax error.
I have double checked the addresses and all look fine. I am on roadrunner (Time Warner). When I called them they said my Entourage must be corrupted and I should re-install. Before I do that, however, any clues?
I am able to send non-group stuff just fine.

Thanks, Vicki

Normally this is a malformed email address. Open the group and click on Sort
List. Make sure the emails are correct and don¹t have brackets around the
email address.

Thanks. I have come across that before (a bad address with an extra dot or something) - but this time I was using a group that I had used many times before. And yes, some names have brackets - which have not presented problems before. Is something changed with Entourage or roadrunner that they no longer like brackets (at least some since others with brackets are working)???

Thanks again.

Things are constantly changing. Entourage hasn¹t done anything different
AFAIK. It could be something is corrupted in that group. I would test by
moving those contacts into smaller groups to find the problem. All the ones
with blue dots aren¹t in your Address Book so I would check those first.

Note: Entourage doesn't export groups so all group members should be in your
Address Book and assigned a category that has the group name.

I have used these email addresses for months without incident. Today I get a message 4.1.8 or 5.5.2. I have checked messages for obvious errors, brackets, quotation marks, etc. and all have been cleaned.

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird, OS is XP. Suggestions?

Hi Roy!

Please don't change the subject when replying to someone else's message.
This makes following the conversation more difficult.

Also, you're posting your question in a newsgroup for Microsoft
Entourage for Mac, which has nothing to do with Thunderbird for Windows.

The 4.1.8 error message is telling you that your mail server cannot find
the mail server for one of your recipients. The domain is the part after
the "@" symbol in an E-mail address. Make sure you haven't misspelled
the domain of one of your addresses.

You might also try changing your DNS servers to use those from OpenDNS
<https://store.opendns.com/setup/device/apple-osx-leopard/> in case your
ISP's DNS servers are returning incorrect information.

The 5.5.2 error message could mean that you've exceeded your mail quota
and you need to delete some messages before you can send more or you may
be trying to send to more recipients than allowed by your ISP.

If this doesn't answer your question then I encourage you to at least
post further questions in the appropriate newsgroups or forums for
Thunderbird and Windows. You may be encountering issues that are
specific to those pieces of software.

Hope this helps!

I am having the same problem with trying to send to groups. I have moved the addresses to new groups and cannot locate any offending addresses. This is not just one group- it is 5 different groups that have always worked before. I am getting very frustrated because I need to get an important e-mail to these people. I have even tried retyping all of the addresses. HELP.

There is no magic fix for this. You will need to verify all the addresses
yourself. Sometimes clicking on "Sort" in the group will help.

You could try these links. I've not used them so not sure about results.

This Google search shows other options:
