System administrator has set policies to prevent installation????

In trying to install new, legal copy of Pub 2000, I get error message "The
system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." I am
using Pub 03 but want to use older version for web publishing only because
older wizard is infinitely superior. My OS is Win XP, which Microsoft claims
is compatible. (I have tried unistalling my 03 version first, but still get
error message. Also, no installation problems with any other programs.) Help!

Are you on a network or a standalone computer? Is this a home or office
environment?

Mary - thanks for the leads but I've still not been able to install Pub 2000
(Win XP). I am the administrator (and sole user) and have never had this
message with other installations. Tried using RUN AS - no luck. Also, I have
Norton 2005 installed but that article was for earlier versions. Any other
suggestions?

I believe the article was talking about old versions of Norton that have left behind
a registry setting, that is why you are directed to a Norton download.
Did you read the other article?

The Cleanup utility might help.

Did the cleanup utility - same error message about admin.
There are no old versions of Norton - new computer, Norton 2005.
All I'm trying to do is install Pub 2000 so I can use the more friendly web
wizard for updates! I still have my old computer set up for this alone - and
want to be able to do it from my new laptop! (I've read many complaints about
web publishing from Pub 03. Hopefully MS is aware and will make improvements!)

I've played with Norton, tried their suggestions from support and still can't
install. I appreciate your efforts and will gladly pursue any other ideas.
However, I'm ready to give up and keep my desktop for using Pub 00! Thanks
again.

Did you disable "script blocking" in Norton?
Have you tried installing in safe mode? Disable your printer before you install...
