system cannot read from specified device

stumped

I am getting this error message when trying to install
office 2000 on xp.. I had Office 2000 Small Business and
would like to standardize all my office programs on
Office 2000 premium.

I have just uninstalled all previous versions of Office
on my computer and now cannot re-install Office 2000
Premium because I am getting this error message as
Windows installer begins....

Anyone have any suggestions?
