System error not enough memory

I have recently down loaded a data base from an E Mail I sent to my boss and
am now getting this message when trying to open it." A system error occurred
or there isn't enough free memory. Close un needed programmes and start
again. I've tried all that including re installing Microsoft Office Pro 97
which is what I'm using. Any help would be great. Thank you
