System freeze issue when maximizing a workbook window in Excel

Hi,

As many of you will have noticed, Apple released 10.5.3 today via Software
Update. According to the bug we reported in Apple's bug database about the
issue where the system freezes when maximizing a workbook window in Excel
(and some other scenarios), the problem no longer happens in their most
recent Leopard seeds. I read that as meaning that the problem should be
fixed in 10.5.3.

However, we had only sporadic repros of this in-house. So I'm really
interested to see if upgrading to 10.5.3 resolves this problem for those who
were experiencing it. For those of you who were hitting this problem in
10.5.2, if you could let us know if 10.5.3 fixes things, I would really
appreciate it.

Thanks,

Pat

Pat,

I am running office 2004 on a powerPC G5 (3.0). system version OS X 10.4.11

I am having problems when I try and open excel sheets.

the program freezes. the sheet was created with the same program but it now wont open. i have tried to click on the file and also do it through the excel program.

I run auto update on the os and also the office programs.

This is a recent occurance. I noticed you refer to the graphics card in a few posts. mine is a ATI Radeon 9650.

I am new to mac and I am not sure how to get more information for you.

thanks

Rohan

Hi Rohan,

This is definitely a different issue than the one that was discussed
originally in this thread. In that case, the system would freeze. When you
say Excel freezes, do you really mean freeze? Do you have to force quit
Excel and relaunch to get it to work again? Or is Excel just failing to open
particular workbooks? Also, does this happen with all workbooks, or just
some? If you have a specific workbook this happens with, and can share it
with me, that would be a big help. If so, please send to
(e-mail address removed).

Thanks,

Pat

Hello Rohan -

Although it may seem the same your issue is different - The message you
replied to concerns Excel (2008 only I believe) in Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard)
whereas you're running Excel 2004 in OS X 10.4.x (Tiger). In order for you
to not get lost in the shuffle & receive the attention you deserve it would
be better to post a New Message including all particulars... Such as whether
this happens with a specific file or with all files, along with the other
detail you include here re OS & Excel versions plus anything else that may
have occurred around the same time as this "recent occurrence".

First though, try running Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, then
restart your Mac. If that doesn't change the situation post back as
suggested above.
