System stalls every 100 seconds

The little hourglass symbol comes on every 100 seconds or
so, and lasts for about 7 seconds, effectively freezing
the Word document. It doesn't happen in other documents
though. I am working in a long document with embedded
pictures and Endnote citations. It has this problem with
or without any other programs open. I have tried shutting
off the auto spell check and grammar check. Any ideas
what else might cause this?

Do you have autosave turned on? If so, check the time
span or turn it off and save it manually.
