Systems tries to install Word when I open Word - install window op

I think this may be related to the service packs, as it never happened before
I installed them. Also, a newspaper computer columnist suggested it's
related.

I have Word2000 installed. Every time I open the application, or open a Word
document, I get a window that says something like "Please wait while Windows
installs...etc." Weirdly, it sometimes thinks it's installing MS Project. I
can make the install window go away. Just can't prevent it from happening in
the first place.

Correction: the message says to please wait while the system configures
blah,blah...

I have Office XP standard, and a similar problem. When trying to open any
Office document, spreadsheet, etc., I get a message saying Office will
install, then another saying wait while Office configures. Then error 2908
message. Can't use Office at all.

Are you able to use any Office components after seeing the messages?

I got no answers at the Microsoft site. Or rather, the one bit of advice led
to other problems, and no fixes.

I have a registry file that you can import that fixed my problems with this
that I could email you. You could review it before testing it. As always,
my file is use at your own risk, but I have used it on multiple desktops here
at my office with no troubles.

I am able to use Office, I just have to get rid of the annoying windows each
and every time. There is supposed to be an article on this here at the MS
website, but I haven't been able to find it. Gggrrrrr.

Hi. I got the file and saved it to my hard drive with the .reg extension.
Then I re-booted...still the same problem. Did I miss a step? Thanks!

Hi. Finally got a chance to try out your .reg file and it works!! Thanks so
much!! Can you do the same thing to keep Windows from trying to install MS
Project when I open Word? That little problem continues.
