Tab arrows and split window widget not changing color properly in Word

First of all, I don't recall the following happening with older
versions of Office 2004 on my iBook...

When I change my system theme between Aqua and Graphite, I would quit
all my programs to let the scroll bars, buttons, etc, change into their
correct color.

For MS Word, however, if I change from Aqua to Graphite, then fire up
MS Word by itself, everything in MS Word changes properly to Graphite.

But, if I start up Excel, Powerpoint or Entourage before Word, the tab
arrows and the split window widget would stick with Aqua and doesn't
change to Graphite:

Oddly enough, everything in Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage changed
properly to Graphite. It's only MS Word that's the oddball here.

I tried uninstalling Office and deleting all the Office preferences
files on my hard drive. Then I rebooted, reinstalled Office 2004, and
re-updated to 11.2.3, but the problem is still there.

Is this problem specific to Office 2004 11.2.3? Does anyone else have
the same problem? It's a small aesthetic bug, but really annoys me when
I use Graphite.

Hmm. OS 10.4.6, Office 2004 11.2. I'm always in Graphite, I never change
out of it, and I've got the same blue buttons (for tab and split) you have
right now, without noticing (Word launched after Excel and Entourage).

Launched Word with Entourage running, and got graphite buttons.

Quit Word, launched Excel, then Word, and got blue buttons (Entourage still
running, since I'm writing this message).

What an odd bug. It's not just 11.2.3, which I haven't installed yet. I just
switched from Panther last month, but I don't think I would ever have
noticed on my own, so can't say whether this ever occurred before Tiger.
Plus there aren't many days when I launch Excel before Word.

Anybody in Panther, Office X, or Office 11.1 who can replicate this?

I need to know exactly what is meant by "tab arrows" and "split window
widget".

By "tab arrows", do you mean the arrows that appear when you click on the
ruler to set a tab? If so, they remain black regardless of whether I've set
Blue or Graphite and regardless of what Office app I open first.

By "split window widget", do you mean the bar that appears between the upper
and lower window when you go to Window>Split? Or what? For me, with either
Blue or Graphite set, the bar (and everything else) between the windows is
identical: a pale grey.

If you look at my screenshot ("capture2.png"), you should see what I
mean. The culprits in question are blue while you can see that I'm
using a graphite theme (the scroll bars and the Spotlight icon are
grey).

The "tab arrows" or, I should've said, "margin setting arrows", are
those arrows that you pull around in the horizontal ruler to see the
first line indent, the hanging indent, and the right margin. The "split
window widget" is that little handle directly above the scroll bar,
which you pull down to create a split window.

When I'm using the Graphite Appearance for my system, If I launch Word
while other Office programs (Excel, Powerpoint or Entourage) are
closed, these "margin setting arrows" and "split window widget" in Word
will be graphite. If I then quit Word, launch any other MS Office
programs, and relaunch Word, these "margin setting arrows" and "split
window widget" will then appear blue, as seen in the two screenshots
I've created.

Thank you very much! I look forward to having the bug fixed. The
screenshots will be on my Photobucket as long as my account is still
valid.

You're welcome. But don't count on this getting fixed soon. I would guess
that it's not the kind of thing that would be considered a high priority
bug. But you never know :).
