Tab does NOTpromote the outline level. How do I fix this?

When I am working on an Outline in Print Layout View, the Tab key no longer
promotes the outline level and the Shift-Tab no longer demotes the outline
level. The keys work properly when I am in Outline view. I have been able to
correct it if I go to Help and click "Discard My customized Settings and
Restore Default Settings". But very shortly, I am having the same problem
again. Is there a way to fix this without discarding my settings?

In the AutoCorrect dialog box, click the AutoFormat As You Type tab. Select
"Set left and first indent with tabs and backspaces."

To open the AutoCorrect dialog box:

- In Word 2007, click Office button | Word Options, and then click the
AutoCorrect Options button in the Proofing category.

- In Word 2003, click Tools | AutoCorrect Options.
