tab key and bulletted outlines

M

Miya

Hello,
I would really appreciate if someone could help me. I use bullets in
Word to create outlines and when I am starting a new row and I press
the tab key, it doesn't create another level of bullets. Instead it
just tabs over and creates a gap between the original bullet and what I
am typing. Does anyone know how to fix that? I hope this makes sense to
someone out there- I'm just trying to create outlines!
Thanks,
Miya

Hi Miya,

Go to Word | Preferences | View and make sure "tabs and backspace set
left indent" is checked.

Hi Miya:

You want "outline-bulleted lists" or "Outlines"?

An outline is the outline of a document done as headings you can move around
and promote/demote as you go. Word has a very powerful Outline View that
enables you to make major structural changes to lengthy documents very
quickly.

For more, see "Organize a document by using outline view" in the Help.

It's a tool for people doing serious documents, and it will dramatically
speed your work if you put a few minutes into learning about it.

Cheers

Thank you so much Daiya!!

If Word 2004 (I think in Word X as well), it's actually
Word:preferences:*Edit* - just in case you didn't poke around & find it :)

You know, I distinctly remember writing the message and seriously
believing I was actually typing Edit. :) Thanks for the catch, Bob.

Yeah, but she's an Academic, they're supposed to be absent-minded :)

Are you kidding? Daiya's still a baby :)!!

I like that idea. :) Frequently the pulses sent between brain and
fingers go a little awry, especially when writing on chalkboards.
