tab no longer changes level for number lists or bullets

Hi I use numbered and bulleted lists frequently as I type
class notes. Somehow, something changed, and the tab (or
reverse tab) button no longer automatically promotes (or
demotes) the level of my lists. Rather, when I tab at any
point on a list, the cursor advances five spaces ... like
when you tab at the beginning of a new, normally
formatted line.

The only way I can promote (change the level) of a list
is to use the "increase/decrease" buttons on the tool bar
next to the bullet/number icons.

The problem isn't document specific. Any time I create a
new document, or open an old one, the tab function tabs
ahead rather than advances a level

I customize things on occasion ... nothing too complex as
I'm clearly no expert. But I may have customized my way
into a this problem.

Any Help would be appreciated.

I just ran into the same problem. Thank you for pointing
out the fix. (Although I didn't change the setting in the
first place.)
