Tab Sets not aligning properly

G

Greg

When settings tabs by clicking the ruler bar, Word XP
insists on putting the tab set just before or after
the .5" marker rather than right on it. Why is that and
how can I fix it?
Thanks,
Greg

It's a known "feature" of recent versions of Office. If you need to set tabs
with more precision, you can either do it through the Tabs dialog, or you
can press Alt while you drag the marker on the ruler. This not only allows
you to override the grid but also displays the measurement at the pointer.

Thanks! I knew about the Alt key. And that has been my
workaround. But not all users in my environment have this
problem. We just can't figure out what the difference is
between our systems (should be identical). If you have
any other knowledge of how to get Word to align those tab
sets on the .5" markers, I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks again,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Where the tabs snap seems to depend on the settings for your drawing
grid...
Duh! I was surprised to learn that too!

On the drawing toolbar, Draw menu, "Grid...", uncheck Grid origins: Choose
margin".
I hope that should fix the problem with the tabs snapping close, but not
exactly on, the .5" marks.

If you check "Snap objects to grid" and set the horizontal spacing to .5",
the tabs should snap only on the .5" markers.

Regards,
Klaus

Klaus,
You are my hero! I knew it was a simple, yet not so
simple setting. I have found that if you just go under
Grid Settings and set the Horizontal Spacing to .5
(rather than .4), it accomplishes the same thing.
Thank you so much!

Greg
