tabbing problem

Hi Folks,

I have a document which consists of columns of data which were created
by using tabs. In Overtype mode, I would think that I could move the
cursor from data column to data column by using the Tab key, but it
doesn't work that way. When I press the Tab key, it deletes the first
character in the column and moves the remaining column data ahead of
it to the next tab position, even though I'm in Overtype mode.

How might I get the cursor to jump from column to column without
pushing the data ahead of it? Any advice would be much appreciated.
