Table Analyzer

I'm trying to create new smaller tables from an old large table in an old
database. I'm in MS Access 2007. I'm using the table analyzer which is giving
me the following error message:

MS Office Access does not support linking to an Access Database or MS Office
Excel workbook saved in a format that is a later version that the current
database format.

What does this mean and is there anyway to get around it?
