Table Borders in MS Word

I note that in my gadget there is a way to delete borders in tables (in Word)
by using the eraser. For those of us who are keyboarders (old school)
Ctrl+Alt+U does it in one stroke!

AFAIAC, the only good use for the Eraser tool is to delete cell *boundaries*
to merge the cells in two columns without merging the entire columns into
one big cell (which unfortunately is the default action in the new, improved
versions of Word.
