Table borders

When messing about with a table or inserting a row from another table, the
vertical cell borders don't always line up and it can take forever to get
them to do so. Is there a quick and foolproof way to do this?

1. Select the column and THEN fuss with the border.
2. Hold the ALT key to get the border "exactly" where you want it to be.
