Table/Box construction

I have a table with 8 rows of large cells (about 7" wide by 1 1/4" high)
that fill an 8 1/2 x 11 page. I'd like to enumerate those cells by inserting
a small box containing the "cell #" in the upper left-hand corner of the
cell. Sounds like a job for a text-box, doesn't it? Well, even using Word's
nudging facilities I can't get the top and left edges of a text-box to share
the boarder lines of the cell. Nor can I get a 1 x 1 table to position with
"shared" top and left-side boarders.

Is there some Word facility that I'm simply not familiar with to accomplish
this?

Thanks,
Bill

And if you don't want to get into the added complexity of nested tables
(which can make a document unstable), you might experiment with just putting
a border around the text (Format | Borders and Shading | Apply to: Text).

Hi Bill,

I should have mentioned this before - if you do not change the wrapping
of the 1 x 1 table to Around in the Table Properties dialog box, any
text typed in the "big" cell will go below it.
