Table Error message

I've recently imported an excel file into my database and
the date field displays 12/12/2003, I would like it to
show 12/12/03. I've formated the field to be date/time
field but I get the error message "Too may fields
defined" and "Error encountered during the save
operation. Data types were not changed."
Any suggestions on how to correct this. I'm a simple
access user and I do not know much about the behind the
sceens coding.
