Table formatting

A

Andy

Does anybody know how I can rotate a table in Word.

I am trying to display a table of data that has too many
columns to display horizintally across the page, I
therefore want to rotate 90degrees anti-clockwise. I have
tried:

1) Changing section orientation to landscape, the problem
is this causes the position of headers and footers on the
page to change creating inconsistencies within the
document.

2) Transposing the positions of column and row headers
within the table, but this does not allow for column
headings to run top to bottom of the cell to save
horizintal space.

Has anyone got any suggestions,

Thanks

Andy;

It's most often done the 1st way you mentioned: create a
separate section and alter the page layout for that
section.

If by 'inconsistencies' in the headers and footers you
mean they are rotated also, the question back would be
who wants to see the headers and footers as rotated text
on the *sides* of that table? True, when one is flipping
through the document they appear in the 'right' place,
but they make no sense on that printed page.

However, if you wanted, you could uncheck the 'Same as
previous' setting for the H&F for the rotated section,
delete any text in the real H&F, and create rotated text
boxes to look like H&Fs. The {PAGE} numbering field code
often resets to zero in a text box, however, meaning
you'll have to enter a typed number and update it any
time the file repaginates.

Hope that helps somewhat...
