Table import problems - ActiveX

Hi all.
I have Office XP professional installed on my laptop, which is running XP
Home edition.

In the last 3 months or so, Access has been acting funny. I cannot
open/convert Access 97 db's, and now I cannot import data in to create new
tables. Most recently I was trying to import a basic excel file and got an
error msg saying "ACTIVEX COMPONENT CAN'T CREATE OBJECT". It's driving me
crazy as I can no longer work from home on various db's.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times and tried the Repair function
on the install disc. MSFT support for office points me to SP2 support, which
circles back to office support!!!

Thanks in advance!

In working with clients with different Windows and Office versions, I've
learned that things actually do "just stop working" -- usually it's because
of an autoupdate that makes your application speak a different language than
the rest of the machine.

When I've experienced such problems, I usually go to microsoft support
downloads and updates and do a search on key words or phrases that appear in
the error message.

I do know I have seen some updates for ActiveX controls - you may start with
that. Also be sure that your XP Home Edition is not in need of any updates.
