Table menu

A friend has a laptop with Word 2000 installed. When you click on the
Table menu, and choose Insert, Table it simply adds a one cell table
to the document, without a dialog box to ask the number of rows and
columns etc.
Is there any obvious reason for this? And is it best to reload Word?
Thanks for any assistance

There are several Insert Table commands, and it's a bit confusing trying to
figure out which is which. A more common complaint is that the Insert Table
button on the Standard toolbar brings up the dialog you're looking for
instead of the palette in which one can drag to select the number of rows
and columns. From experience, I have figured out that the command required
for that (the palette) is TableInsertGeneral. The one your friend wants is
the Insert Table... command.

Tell your friend to open Tools | Customize and select the Commands tab. In
the Table category, select Insert Table... (the very first command listed)
and drag it to the Table | Insert menu. If that works as expected, he can
press Ctrl+Alt+Hyphen and then click on the nonworking Insert Table command
to remove it (or he can open Tools | Customize again and drag the command
off the menu).
