Table of contents for figure captions

C

Cecelia

I've insert a second toc for my figure captions. The
problem is the full caption shows up in the TOC. Since
some are rather long, we would like a shorter version in
the TOC. Is it possible have a full caption in the text
part, and then a modified one in the TOC? I've coded all
the captions in my doc with a style that generates the TOC
for figures.

Thanks - I'm almost done!

There are two possible workarounds:

1. Use a second paragraph for the part of the caption you don't want
included. If you want the caption to appear to be a single paragraph, you
can use a hidden paragraph mark (see
http://home.zebra.net/~sbarnhill/RunInSidehead.htm for an explanation of the
technique). If this is Word 2002, you could apply the Caption style to just
the part you want included and a different (but identical) style to the
rest.

2. Use TC fields.
